Glass Bells

Glass Bells

This week you are learning your fun project, before you blow your graded project.  This way you can practice the ring seal technique.

Set Up:
-         14, 8 mm tubing & 2 mm rod
-         # 1 tip
-         Matches/mats/towel/glass cutter/screen/corks
                           Blow tube

 Bells (14 & 8mm tubing & 2 mm rod):
-         Use a # 1 tip.
-         Make a clapper from 2 mm rod:  small ball on one end and closed hook on the other end.  This part is the part that makes the ding.  Make it as long as you like.  I make mine about 1.5".  Make another hook on a 2 mm rod.  Close the hook around the closed hook on the bottom part.  Make sure the clapper moves and you didn't seal the two closed hooks together. Leave this part long so it will go into the 8 mm tubing.
-         Make an end-to-end seal using 14 mm & 8 mm tubing.
-         Insert the clapper assembly into the 8 mm tubing.
-         Collapse the 8 mm tubing, fusing it  around the 2 mm rod.
o       Do this step slowly and don't trap any bubbles during the process.
-         Cut off any extra 14 mm tubing.
-         Flare and the end of the 14 mm tubing.

Finally Got It Right!!

Finally Got It Right!!

This is part of a special order.  Last time I attempted the bracelet, I made it too small for the average person.  So, I got a new bracelet...I've been wanting one anyway.  So here is the customers bracelet and earrings.  The bracelet is Nina's pattern and the earrings, I adapted from the bracelet.  The jewelry was made with DMC Embroidery Thread.

-         Remove from the heat and blow a larger flask.

So Sad

So Sad

I made the long trip down to the "Big City", yesterday and discovered our Jo Ann Fabric store is no longer carrying Lizbeth size 20 thread.  This is an extreme shame, since we live a long ways to any other city.  Good quality tatting thread is not accessible in our area.
By the way girls, our Jo Ann's displays their clearance stuff along an obscure wall.  Therefore, look all through your store, to see where they hid the clearance things.

Good Luck.

Mice Swizzel Sticks

Mice Swizzel Sticks

Set Up:
-         Colors/6 mm colorless Pyrex rod
-         # 3 tip
-         Matches/mats/towel/glass cutter/graphite paddle/long nail/tweezers

Mouse Swizzle Stick (6 mm rod):
-         Use a #3 tip.  Colorless or colored rod can be used.
-         Form a small ball on the end of a piece of rod, flatten the ball and pull off an ear with a tweezers.
-         Make another ear about the same size.
-         Make two marias with your 6mm rod.  Make one of the bulges larger than the other.  This will be the body and head.
-         Pull off the excess rod on the head.  This forms the nose.  Heat the tip of the nose to form a small (nose) ball.  Add the eyes and the ears.
-         Add a tail and fire polish the end of the swizzle stick.  Do this step carefully!!!!

REMEMBER  HOT GLASS LOOKS THE SAME AS COLD GLASS!!!!!

Add arms and legs if you want your mouse to have appendages.

The mouse is on the left and a hummingbird is on the right.

Tatting Shuttles

Tatting Shuttles

These are three, lovely tatting shuttles, I had bought with my birthday money.  They are from The Scarlet Scarab and are ONLY $6/ea!!!  She has them in bone, horn and shell.  The sizes are 2" and 1.5".  There are also fish-shapped suttles.  Check out her site, she has alot of wonderful things made out of shell and horns...like bobbin winders.
I bought each of the shuttes in size 2".  They are a little tight in the tips, but use 800 grit wet/dry sand paper to open the tip slightly.  They work great!!!
