Love

Love

Christmas is coming and time to start getting presents made.  Anyone can buy a present but one you make is from the heart.  To get you started here is my "2-Layered Flower Brooch" pattern.  So get started....with love, Marie

This was written using size 20, Lizbeth thread and DMC embroidery floss (in parenthesis).  Feel free to add decorative picots and/or beads.  This brooch also would make a great pendant, bracelet or earrings.  Finished  size:  1 ¼” in diameter (size 20 thread) and 1 ½” in diameter (DMC floss).

Materials:
2 – Colors of size 20, Lizbeth thread or DMC embroidery floss (use all 6-strands)
1 – Strand of gold or silver, metallic sewing thread (Coats & Clark or Sulky)
1 – 1” pin bar
6 – 12/0 seed beads (SB) (3 mm round bead)
1 – 3 mm (4 mm) round bead
6 – 4 mm (6 mm) round beads
2 – Shuttles
Matching sewing thread (optional, can use the ends to sew in the beads.)
Acid-free glue

All tatting will be done with one strand of metallic sewing thread and one strand of size 20 thread (DMC floss).

Step #1:
NOTE:   This part can be tatted in two parts, the back rings first, then the front rings.  The back rings are in purple and are 6 - 10 - 6.  The front rings are in red and are 6 + (join to the picots between the back rings) 6.
Wind 1 – shuttle with the first color thread and the metallic thread.  This step will be the shuttle only.

Start with one of the back rings (in purple):
R1:  6 – 10 – 6
R2: 6 + (join to the last picot in R1) 6
R3:  6 + (join to the last picot in R1) 10 – 6
R4:  6 + (join to the last picot in R3) 6
R5:  6 + (join to the last picot in R3) 10 – 6
R6:  6 + (join to the last picot in R5) 6
R7:  6 + (join to the last picot in R5) 10 – 6
R8:  6 + (join to the last picot in R7) 6
R9:  6 + (join to the last picot in R7) 10 – 6
R10:  6 + (join to the last picot in R9) 6
R11:  6 + (join to the last picot in R9) 10 + (join to the first picot in R1) 6
R12:  6 + (join to the last picot in R11) 6
Cut ends, can use the ends to add the beads or use matching sewing thread.

Step #2:
Wind the second shuttle with about 18” of the other color thread and the metallic thread and do not cut the threads.  This step will be working off the ball.  If you feel comfortable, you may finger tat this step.

The second round is all chains with 14 ds.  Lock-join each chain in the large picots of the back rings.  You can hide ends now or use the ends to add the beads.

DMC on the left and size 20 thread on the right.

Stay tuned, until tomorrow....you'll add the beads.
