Chatelaine

The shuttle I had gotten from Herrschners.  The shuttle is usable once you figure out how to use it.  The jump ring was removed and  a lobster claw clasp was added to remove it from the chatelaine.  The chatelaine is adjustable from 18" to 21".  This allows me to were it as a necklace or make it longer for a usable chatelaine.

This can hold my tatting essentials, shuttle with a little tatting started, and my Air Force mini Swiss Army knife.  The mini knife has a nice, sharp scissors with it.  I had gotten the knife, when I was in the Air Force.

Christmas in July

Found an unopened set of 12 Christmas tree kits at an estate sale.  I bought the set for my Sunday school class.  The trees are made with pipe cleaners, beads, and safety pins.  This is what they look like...the instructions were a little unclear, but figured it out.

Cross Country Skiing

This is another Fad of the Month craft.  On one side is a reindeer and  the other is the fat man (Santa) cross county skiing.  This is one of my favorite sports.  Unfortunately, since we moved off of the mountain,  I rarely go cross country skiing.   I use to run out the front door and start skiing up the mountain, but not down here in the desert.

Opal Earrings

This is a pair of Idaho Spencer opal earrings.  Spencer opals are typically in the form of triplets.  The thin layer of opal is shaved off, a colorless quarts cap is cemented to the top and a piece of black jet is cemented to the back.  More on this process is on the Spencer Opal Mines site.   These earrings are 10 mm X 15 mm.

Happy birthday little sister :)

I'm Hooked

I'm Hooked

I had gotten some thread, looks like nylon thread, in a size 10 and a tatting shuttle at an estate sale.  There were 18 colors of thread.  Since, the girls wanted to make the bone ring class two weeks, I decided to try this nylon thread on another bookmark.  By-the-way.  This stuff is not tatting friendly!!  It twist so bad, that it makes closing rings very difficult....therefore, small rings.

I've become hooked, after making another book mark!!!

Coral Reef Bookmark...look how bright the colors are.

The shuttle was a red, pumpkin seed shuttle.  The tail is about 15".  Someone bought it as soon as I made it.  They were thinking about wrapping it around a purse or bag.

Plastic Bone Ring

Plastic Bone Ring

I've been teaching the girls (ladies) from my church on needle tatting.  This week they were practicing Catherin Wheel Joins, using an 1" plastic bone ring.  I made a simple bookmark pattern, using size 10 crochet thead.

Shuttlebird's Challenge

Shuttlebird's Challenge

The semi-local, tatting club is the Shuttlebirds, in Washington.  One of these years, I'll go to their big show.   They started a challenge in May (actually, this is when I'm posting this blog.)  Last week was a butterfly pattern and this week is Anne B's famous dragon.

The butterfly was done in Lizbeth, size 20, springtime and antique violet med.

Idaho Spencer Opal

Idaho Spencer Opal

This is a pendent made with Idaho Spencer Opals.  You can go to the mine and mine the tailing or purchase some from their store.  These opals were given to my by someone, so I didn't have to do the stone work. This pendent is 10 mm X 45 mm long on a 18" chain.
