What About Dogs?

What About Dogs?

Is there anyone in tatland, who has dogs?  I see mostly cats on everyone's blog.  Don't get me wrong, I love cats but I'm allergic to them and the hubby is not fond of them.

Our baby (90 some pounds soak-and-wet) is a yellow lab named Jake.  He just turned 10.  He's definitely not the brightest light bulb, but he is a lover.  He's afraid of the ice and is a freezy-cat.

Here he is after eating a grilled hot dog.  I had to drag him out on the ice, to go ice fishing.  He's in the security of his sled and sleeping on his favorite pillow.

     Now to the tatting.....

This is one of my earrings (they were too heavy to wear), done in Lizbeth size 20 threads.  It measures 2", not counting the crystal drop.

Water Casting

Water Casting

Water Casting is the result of hot, molten silver being dropped into a beaker of water.  Once the molten silver hits the water, the surrounding water starts to boil.  The boiling water forms bubbles and spheres in the cooling silver.  The result is a unique, one-of-a-kind silver cast.  The silver is 97% pure with trace amounts of copper and zinc (hardens the silver).

Can't Keep Them All

Can't Keep Them All

I'm a Tattasaurus, with a tatting problem...I can't stop tatting.  I just love it!!!  I tat during my morning tea, tat at night, tat while we are on the way to the store, even design patterns when I'm suppose to be sleeping.

A lot of my tatting is given away as gifts and put into Christmas cards, some I sell at my fall craft shows, and a few on West Pine Creations.  I don't try to make a living at it If I sell a piece, great...that means I can buy another ball(s) of STRING!!

On those rare occasions, I can't part with a piece of tatting.  That's what happened with this pair of earrings.  They started out as a single pendent and ended up as pair of changeable earrings.  They are tatted with pearl cotton #12 on an old pair of clip earrings.  The clips were glued on and easily removed.  The earrings also double as a pendent.

Here's the link for the items for sale:  West Pine Creations.

There was also a pendent, I made a little while back that I had a hard time parting with.  You can't keep them all...BUT, since I have the earrings, I need a matching necklace.  So, I kept the necklace and working on a matching bracelet.........I need the set.

Make-It-Yours Tatting Kits

Make-It-Yours Tatting Kits

I initially made my tatting kits for beginner tatters.  Lately, advanced tatters are wanting them, so I needed to change out the size thread and size of picot hook.

I've came up with a Make-It-Yours tatting kit, where you can chose what's in it.  You can chose between a small kit or large kit (extra empty bobbin, extra bobbin of thread and a larger case...nice for longer trips and room for tatting needles in the large pocket.)

You can choose which size picot hook (from US size 1 thru 10) and the color of beads on the tatting essentials.  Choose which style of tatting shuttle and the size of thread (from 3, 10, 20, or 30...my choice of color).

Make-It-Yours tatting kits can be found on my face book page:  West Pine Creations.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers

I found this doo-dad in a geocache.  There were three pieces with it.

What is a geocache, you ask.  A geocache is some type of a container your find with a hand-held gps.  The geocache can be as small as a small film can to a large ammo can.  You must trade something of the same or greater value.  Most of the time there isn't anything worth trading.  But the hunt is what's it's all about!!!!  Go to Geocaching.com and look up caches in your area.  You will be surprised what is near your house.  You don't need a gps for all of them.  Just look at the maps and the clues.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers.  This one was done in Lizbeth, size 20, Falling leaves.  It measures 3" across.

My Latest Find

My Latest Find

I found this pretty little brass box, for a $1, at a yard sale.  It happens to match the brass box, I bought earlier in the year for a $1.  The new box has a beautiful, brass flower motif for the handle.  I reglued it and looks great.

Filling it with Tatsmithing pendents.

Both are filled and ready for my first show.

Snowflake Pendent

Snowflake Pendent

This was one of Grandma's, single earring.  It's blue topaz, sat in sterling silver.  I cut the post off and smoothed it down.  Being the nerdy chemist, it looks more like an atom than a snowflake.

The thread was pearl cotton #8 and it is 2" in diameter.

Leafy Pendent

Leafy Pendent

I bought this pendent, about a year ago, with the intentions of tatting around it.  Seeing Rachel's wonderful work, I thought I'd give it a try.

I like to incorporate the tatting to the colors and designs of the piece.  The thread is Lizbeth, size 20, seed beads and Swarovski crystals.

The challenge on this piece was the split-chain, in the second round.  For this, I like to go to Linda's site.  She has it in video and pictorial.  Linda designs the most beautiful doilies and 3-D flowers.
