Beads
Here is part two.
2-Layered Flower Brooch
© 2016 Marie McCurry
Beads and Terms:
Experienced tatters can add the beads as
you tat the brooch. Beginners may want
to sew them in, after your done tatting the brooch. Feel free to substitute beads.
Step #3:
Brooches tatted with DMC floss, the bead
sizes are in parenthesis “( )”.
1.) Thread 6 - SB (3 mm) and go around again. Pull the ends tight to form a circle. The black lines show the direction to sew the
beads in. 2.5 mm round beads can be
used instead of SB. :)
2.) Tack the ring down by sewing around
the thread, that holds the beads together, and tack it to the bottom of the
front rings. In the area where the ring
closes. Sew this twice. (See diagram)
3.) Add a bead on top of 6 – bead circle,
using a 3 mm (4 mm) bead. Tack it down
on the opposite side. Go back through
the bead to secure it.
4.) Add 6 – 4 mm (6 mm) beads to the back
rings. Use the BOP and TTS (use the
picot joins) techniques. Sew this twice.
Step #4:
Sew
on the pin bar. Use the holes and ends
to attach the pin bar to the brooch.
Make sure you place the pin bar above the “horizontal axis” (see
diagram). Doing so, will prevent the
brooch from “flopping” forward.
Add a drop of acid-free glue on the
tatting, where the “flap” hits the tatting (see diagram). This will prevent the threads from wearing. This brooch should be stiff enough, not
requiring stiffener.
Great instructions & graphics !
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this beautiful pattern :-)
Catching up again, and I am blown away by the sweet brooch and this amazing tutorial (both parts)! Very 'artistic', of course, with wonderful detail. It's very generous of you to share it!
