Fabric Shuttles

Fabric Shuttles

These are Boye shuttles I prettied up with left over fabric.

1.)  Sand the shuttle lightly (roughen it up).  If you fabric is too light and shuttle, too dark, paint white acrylic paint on top of the shuttle.

2.)  Add decoupage to the top shuttle and back of fabric.  Leave the fabric a little larger than the shuttle.

3. )  Once, dry, trim the fabric, next to the shuttle.
Hint:  I found it easier to trim the fabric, when it's still a little tacky.  If it's too dry, sometimes it would release from the shuttle.

4.)  Add another coat of decoupage to the top and side.  Repeat one more time.

5.)  Once dry add three coats of colorless fingernail polish.  Allow the coats to dry, before adding the next coat.

I like them all so well, I don't know if I could sell them.

But things for sale can be found HERE.

Almost Lost in Time

Almost Lost in Time

Tatting is not quite a lost art, yet.  Continue to tat in public, to familiarize people with the lovely art of tatting.  Resin Craft had ask people to decorate their time pieces so they can take them to a craft show in California.  They sent the blanks out, we decorated them, and sent them back.   We don't get them back.  I've been following her blog and decided to give it a try.  I never resin casted with fabric and have a lot to learn still.  She makes it look so easy!!  I thought I got all of the bubble and later on,  some appeared!!!  Need more practice.  Here is the piece I sent off.  Check out her blog, lots of cool ideas!

And....for the winner of the Honey, the rattie shuttle goes to:

Erisnyx  (Please contact me with your address)...congrats!!

Fire Opal

Fire Opal

Fire opals are orange to red.  This name is commonly misused as  precious opals.  Precious opals are white with a play of fire/color.  I purchased this cabochon at one of my craft shows.  The opal is still in it's matrix, so decided to tatsmith around it.  The tatting was done with two strands of copper sewing thread.

 3 of 25 motif challenge.
This opal has been untreated, you can tell by the natural cracks.

Started another large doily and working on smaller projects at the same time.  I like to burn the candle at both ends.  So my blogging may not be as regular.

You have until Sat, to comment on Mondays post, to take Honey home.

No we didn't put her in Daddy's boot.
She jumped in there herself.

Pine Box

Pine Box

No....not a coffin!!!  Out grew my changeable earring box so made a lot bigger one.  The pattern is from an old Tandy Leather magazine.  It uses two nesting pine boxes.  Leather is tooled and wrapped around the out side.  The smaller box us used for the shelves and removable shelf feet.

Celtic Shuttle

Celtic Shuttle

Here is a couple of pairs of Celtic shuttles made from black walnut wood.

I had to quickly try them out.  The ends are a little big for size 40 thread.  They worked, but a little too tight.  Have to make the ends smaller for finer threads.  The pattern was "Celtic Knot Christmas Tree Heart," by Ruth Perry.  The little motif is about 1" in diameter.  Not bad for my first attempt at Celtic tatting.

Critter Shuttles

Critter Shuttles

Finally finished 16 critter shuttles.   Posted them on West Pine Creations (Facebook Page) for sale.

Earrings made with the frog and bunny shuttles.  Made with size 20 thread.  Pattern from an old Work Basket book (April 1953).  These are the neatest little books!!

I had to test out each shuttle to make sure they knew how to tat.  They are all fast learners!!
